The Exam Dates for the UN YPP 2018 are Announced!
The United Nations has officially released the dates for the UN YPP 2018 written examination. The first stage of the exam will be administered online on 25 October 2018. The second stage will be administered online on 13 December 2018. Exact time windows to complete the exam and further details will be provided to those who are convoked to the exams. Convocations (invitations for those eligible to participate in the exam) are expected to be sent mid-September.
As announced before, the exam this year will be held in two stages: Part I consisting of General Paper (Summary) and Specialised Paper Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) in October 2018 and Part II consisting of Specialised Paper Open-Ended (Essay) Questions in December 2018. The General Paper tests your writing and analytical skills and includes a summary; the Specialised Paper tests the substantive knowledge of your job family and includes multiple choice questions, long (essay) questions, and short questions.
The written examination is considered to be highly competitive: according to the official UN statistics, only 4% of candidates pass this stage and are invited for an interview. Intense preparation is the key to success, and we strongly advise you to start it as soon as possible, even before the screening results are announced, as there is a comprehensive amount of information to be covered. An effective and proven preparation strategy is to entrust us to assist you with the studies; our credibility is confirmed by the past statistics on the candidates’ service satisfaction and their pass rates which are available here.
We have designed a variety of written exam preparation packages to suit various needs. We strongly recommend you to start with the suggested reading list, which is a careful selection of books, articles and publications prepared by our experts. We have created this list to help you focus your study efforts as many candidates are overwhelmed by the amount of information and thus fail to cover the essential topics the limited time before the examination. Thus our selection is a great tool to narrow down the reading list and still get all the essential information to success at the test. We also offer some great materials to prepare for the General Paper, including the guidelines from the official UN workshop help for external YPP candidates and a selection of model summaries to learn from. You will also have an access to past UN YPP exams in your job area – that will help you to understand the questions which come up in the exam and how to prepare for it. All these items are included in our very basic package called the Starter package, and much more materials are available with Standard, Advance and Dominating packages – just have a look:
